Description
The sixth assignment for Character Design class: in groups of six, redesign the main cast of the animated film "Titan AE;" because the character design - among other things - is lackluster.
I ended up designing the antagonist race: the Drej. They are supposed to be beings of pure energy. I had a lot of trouble with this character at first. My primary sketches were all crystalline and humanoid in some way. All the designs felt more like containers of energy than just pure energy. I then reworked the design to remove all human aspects and thought of how to portray energy. The first thing that came to mind was light and I thought of how to best "demonize a halogen bulb" (which went over very well).
The end result is a hivemind being that consumes all forms of energy. They cannot be killed through conventional means (they simply absorb lasers and incendiaries), making them virtually indestructible. I thought that gave more significance to the ending where they are used to power the Titan.

awesome, now it looks truly alien than humanoid, i guess the original drej are made of some kind of solid plasma, as "pure energy" doesn't make sense to me.
